Dealing with a problem like constipation is something that may not only be uncomfortable but down right painful at time. This is something that can effect just about anyone of any race, age, creed or gender. This is why constipation and such a common problem among so many people and also why there are so many constipation remedies and cures on the market. In fact, if you pay close attention, you will notice this the next time your are shopping at your local grocery store. There are entire sections devoted to this particular type of medication. The question is, how will your know which of these constipation remedies for adults is right for you.

Deciding on a particular type of constipation remedy may be a little bit difficult, especially if this is the first time you have become constipated, or at least backed up to the point that you are seeking out medicine for the problem. There are basically three types of constipation remedies on the market and each of these will effect your body in a different way. The first, and most popular medication is known as a laxative. Laxatives will quite literally lubricate your stool and intestines in the hopes that the lodged feces will more easily slide through. The second constipation remedy is known as a stool softener. For the most part, a person becomes constipated due to overly hard stool. This medication does exactly what it sounds like it would, it softens the stool, helping the body to more easily push it out. The last remedy that we are going to discuss today is an enema. Enemas are a bit more harsh and should only be used in extreme cases of constipation. The way an enema works is by inserting a small tube into the rectum. This tube is attached to a bag filled with a special medicated solution. The solution is then allowed to slowly enter the body. This particular remedy will literally flush your body out. This method is by far the most effective although it is also a bit extreme.

Which constipation remedy is right for you. That really depends on your body type and the severity of your constipation. Your best bet is to start off with a more mild medication and work your way up. If you find that non of these constipation remedies are working for you, you may want to speak to your doctor.
